Gandhiji successfully organise satyagrah movements in various places just after arriving in India from South Africa.
The movement started in 1916 from Champaran Bihar, where Gandhiji inspire the peasants to struggle against the oppressive plantation system.
In 1917, he took up the cause of the peasants of Kheda district of Ahmedabad to fight for reduction of revenue through Satyagraha Movement. Here the peasants were not able to pay the revenue, because of crop failure and a plague epidemic and demanding that revenue collection be relaxed.
The third movement was held in 1918. Gandhiji went to Ahmedabad to organise a satyagraha movement amongst the cotton mill workers whose conditions were miserable.
These movements were the first mass movements in Indian National Movement. These inculcated self confidence and a spirit to fight against injustice among people.

Your childhood teacher did not wrong you when they taught you that there should be three, or four, or five sentences in a paragraph. It is important to understand, however, that the aim in teaching this was not to impart a hard-and-fast rule of grammar, drawn from an authoritative-but-dusty book. The true aim of this strategy was to teach you that your ideas must be well supported to be persuasive and effective.
