-If the sperm carries a Y chromosome, it will result in a male. During fertilization, gametes from the sperm combine with gametes from the eggto form a zygote. The zygote contains two sets of 23 chromosomes, for the required 46. Most women are 46XX and most men are 46XY, according to the World Health Organization.

The number of sex chromosomes present in an ovum is one along with 22 other autosomes. The sex chromosome is X.

Generally,the human reproductive cells are hapliod and when they fertilize,the sperm and the ovum fuse forming a diploid zygote.

In contrast,the male gamete has one somatic chromosome,X or Y. Fifty percent chances having either one of the two.

When the sperm and the ova fuse,if the X of the sperm and X of the ova get to combine by chance combination,a girl child is born eventually. Similarly,if a Y from a sperm and X from an egg combine,a male child is eventually conceived.
