Dental formula explains the number and type of teeth a mammal has.
dental formula for adult human is  \frac{2123}{2123} .

I= incisors   C= canines   PM= premolars   M=molars

here are dental formulas for some common mammals:

dog : I  =  3/3 ; C  =  1/1 ; PM  =  4/4 ; M  =  3/2 [upper jaw has 3 molars on each side ; while lower jaw has 2 each.]
    total =  42

rat : I  =  1/1 ; C  =  0/0 ; PM  =  1/1 ; M  =  3/3
  total = 20

cat
I  =  3/3 ; C  =  1/1 ; PM  =  3/2 ; M  =  1/1
   total = 30

rabbit
I  =  2/1 ; C  =  0/0 ; PM  =  3/2 ; M  =  3/3
        total = 28

lion
 I = 3/3 ; C = 1/1 ; PM = 3/2 ; M = 1/1
   total = 30
