Let the direction of positive axis be towards East.

(i)

Therefore,

• Initial Displacement (towards East) = 100m

• Final Displacememt (in reverse direction)

= -{ 1/2 × 100}

= - 50m

(NOTE :- In reverse direction it would be negative, so it's sign is taken as negative)

Total Displacement = 100 - 50

= 50m

(ii)

• Total time taken

= 50 + 25

= 75s

• Total Distance traveled = 100 + 50

= 150m

(NOTE :- This is because distance doesn't depend on direction and can never be negative. Therefore, for total distance simply add the displacement without Taking its sign )

• Total displacement = 100 - 50

= 50m

● Speed of the boy

= total distance/ total time

= 150/ 75

= 10/ 5

= 2 m/ s

● Velocity of the boy

= total displacement/ total time

= 50/ 75

= 2/ 3 m/ s
