Roasting is the process in which the ore is heated below its melting point in presence of air to oxidise the impurities.

Calcination is the process of heating the ore below its melting point an absence of air to remove volatile impurities like arsenic etc

Answer:

(a) Metals are malleable in nature. With the help of the hammer, we can beat       the given sample. If it converts into it's thin sheet's then that sample is metal otherwise non-metal. Arrange the battery, the bulb, the wires and the switch to set up a circuit and also connect the sample. If the bulb glows then the sample is metal if not non-metal.

(b) These tests represent the physical properties of metals and non-metals, making it easier to differentiate.
