Indirect democracy, or representative democracy, is when citizens electrepresentatives to make laws on their behalf.[1]This is what most modern countries have today.
India has different kinds of democracies at different levels of hierarchy.
At National, State and many other levels, it is an indirect democracy. We elect our representatives and from then on they decide for us. At village level, we have direct democracy, ‘gram sabhas’. All the registered voters of the village are members of the sabha and they meet to take decisions. So, India’s democracy is dominantly Indirect democracy. On the other hand, elections are dominantly direct.
