Future generations will laugh at us for having social media. In the not-too-distant future our knowledge of brain chemistry and technology will have advanced so far that telepathy will replace all other forms of communication. Not only will the government know what you are thinking at all times, but so will everyone else. “Thinking” as we know it will atrophy, because of its inherent heretical dangers, as in the classic 1984.

Come to think of it, they probably won’t laugh at us at all — for two reasons. For the human beings of the future, history will have become an alien (and forbidden) subject. And, second, they will have forgotten how or why to laugh at anything.
