Answer:

PQ=8cm

Step-by-step explanation:

  1. first as we know OQ=5 cm and this is the radius of circle
  2. now, see a triangle is formed i.e ONQ.
  3. here we know that OQ=5cm and to find ON i.e ON=AN-AO, and  we know AN=8cm and OA is the radius of the circle, so ON=8-5 i.e ON=3cm
  4. now use pythagoras theorem in triangle ONQ.
  • (OQ)^{2} =(ON)^{2} +(NQ)^{2}
  •  h^{2} =p^{2} +b^{2}
  • 5^{2} =3^{2} +b^{2}, after solving this,
  • we get, b=4cm
  • as we see that PQ is a chord and N is the mid point of this chord so, PN and NQ is equal
  • so, PQ=2*NQ
  • PQ=2*4
  • PQ=8cm
