Mainly due to Transfer of traits from parents to their Offsprings and variation our in both plants & animals , the chance of survival increased . And this is the reason to increase genetic diversity in Plants & Animals

In sexual reproduction, a male gamete( haploid set of chromosome)fuses with the female gamete( haploid set of chromosomes) to produce the zygote ( diploid set of chromosomes)by the process of fertilization.

Sexual reproduction involves genetic recombination,i.e. exchange of genetic material between the two sets of chromosomes during the process of meiosis( cell division involves mitosis followed by meiosis).

Therefore, sexual reproduction helps in increasing the genetic diversity in living organisms.
