earth is not perfect round it's a bit flat at the top and bottom

it does not maintains its shape it changes slightly but is still round.

Earth being round is a fact. And we have known that for over 2000 years now.Over 2,000 years ago, the Greek philosopher Aristotle had it all figured out. However,It is not perfectly round, it is flattened at the poles and bulges at the Equator. So it is actually closer to an ellipsoid.

And, the reason to why it is close to ellipsoidal shape can be linked to your second question.The Earth is so massive that the pull of gravity maintains its roughly spherical shape. When Earth rotates around the North-South Axis it generates centrifugal force,this force deforms the sphere into an oblate ellipsoid.
