This is the structure of Na+Cl-(s) . As you can see the Cl- ions are arranged in FCC (face centered cubic) and Na+ ions fills the octahedral hole. Each ion is surrounded by another 6 ions. Since both cation and anion have a co-ordination number of 6, the structure shows a 6:6 co-ordination

Each sodium ion in the crystal is surrounded by the six chlorine ions so coordination number of sodium in sodium chloride NaCl is 6.And also each chloride ion in sodium chloride NaCl is surrounded by 6 sodium ions so it also haves a coordination number of 6
