Step-by-step explanation:

Solution :-

From the given figure :

Length of a rectangle ABCD = 12 cm

AB = CD = 12 cm

Breadth of the rectangle ABCD = 10 cm

AD = BC = 10 cm

We know that

Area of a rectangle = length × breadth sq.units

Area of the rectangle ABCD

= AB × AD = CD × BC

= 12 × 10

= 120 cm²

Area of the rectangle ABCD = 120 cm²

And

∆ ADE is a right angled triangle

Base of the traingle = AE = 8 cm

Height of the triangle = AD = 10 cm

We know that

Area of a triangle = (1/2) base × height sq.units

Area of the triangle ADE = (1/2)×AE×AD

=> (1/2)×8×10

=> 80/2

=> 40 cm²

Area of the ADE = 40 cm² ----(1)

∆ BCE is a right angled triangle

Base of the traingle = BE = 4 cm

Height of the triangle = BC = 10 cm

We know that

Area of a triangle = (1/2) base × height sq.units

Area of the triangle BCE = (1/2)×BE×BC

=> (1/2)×4×10

=> 40/2

=> 20 cm²

Area of the ∆ADE = 20 cm² -----(2)

Area of the shaded region

= Area of ∆ ADE + Area of ∆ BCE

From (1)&(2)

= 40 cm² + 20 cm²

= 60 cm²

Area of the given shaded region is

60 cm²
