Step-by-step explanation:

If X-1 and X+1 both are the factors of the given polynomial, then x^2-1 is also factor of this polynomial.

So, now divide given polynomial by X^2-1 so you should get 0 as a remainder.

So,

aX^3 + X^2 - 2X + b

= aX ( X^2 - 1) + x^2- ( a - 2 ) X + b

So, X^2 - ( a - X) X + b should be divisable by x^2-1, so if you take a=2 and b = -1, then it is divisable by x-1 and x+1 both.

Answer : a = 2, b = -1
