According to the poet the life of an average Indian woman passes through the three main stages as a maiden as a bride and as a mother each of the stage is described by the colour of the bangles. does the main theme of the poem is that the the bangles are a part of parcel and of a woman's life in India is colour or type of bangle represent each stage in her life silver and blue or pink represent the stage of maidenhood yellow the morning of wedding firing at the passionate longing in the brides heart symbol copper bridal night and representative of the girls wedding gold and grey colour represents Motherhood or matriachy.

the poet has not directly referred to the role and dominance of males in in a woman's life but there are enough hits things of patriarchal setup in a poem A man is father husband and son plays an important role in every stage of a life the last four lines have been criticized as a test approval of patriarchal ideology by a woman poet.by using fair sons the poet has only upheld a gender discrimination in Indian families the last line shows that women's insubordination by husband even if the ideas spectacle or ionic it only goes to favour are set up in which Womens are more object be placed in fixed boxes.
