Height of the straight part of the tree = 15
Length of the broken part = 32 - 15 = 17m
Let the distance of the top of the tree from the base be ( after breaking) = x
Using Pythagoras Theorem,
x^2 + 15^2 = 17^2
x^2 = 289 - 225
x^2 = 64
x= 8
Distance is 8 m.
