A glass tumbler cracks when dipped in boiling water because when the glass is dipped into the boiling water, as a glass is a bad conductor of heat, the glass absorbs all the heat and cracks due to high pressure.

when boiling water is pured into a normal glass tumbler its inner surface expand however, due to low thermal conductivity of Glass, the expansion of the surface of the thermal is quite small. due to an event expansion of the outer and inner surface that tumblar break.
