Answer:

a) 3:4

b) 6 units

c) 8 units

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Area of first triangle = 1/2 × b × h

= 1/2 × 9 × 5

Area of second triangle = 1/2 × 10 × 6

Ratios of areas of triangles

= Area of first triangle/Area of second triangle

 =  \frac{ \frac{1}{2} \times 9 \times 5 }{ \frac{1}{2}  \times 10 \times 6}  \\  =  \frac{3}{4}

= 3:4

b) MP = MQ + QP = 9+4 = 13

In ∆ MNP -

MN^2 + NP^2 = MP^2 [By Pythagoras theorem]

=> MN^2 = MP^2 - NP^2 (1)

In ∆ MNQ -

MN^2 = MQ^2 + NQ^2 (2)

From (1) and (2)

=> MP^2 - NP^2 = MQ^2 + NQ^2

=> NP^2 = MP^2 - MQ^2 - NQ^2

=> NP^2 = (13)^2 - (9)^2 - NQ^2

=> NP^2 = 169 - 81 - NQ^2

=> NP^2 = 88 - NQ^2 (3)

Now, In ∆ NQP

NP^2 = QP^2 + NQ^2 (4)

From (3) and (4)

=> QP^2 + NQ^2 = 88 - NQ^2

=> (4)^2 - 88 = - NQ^2 - NQ^2

=> 16 - 88 = -2NQ^2

=> NQ^2 = -72/-2

=> NQ = √36 = 6

Hence NQ = 6 units

c) Distance formula = [ (x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2 ]

= [ (4-2)^2 + (1-3)^2 ]

=> 4 + 4 = 8 units
