Given polynomial is x^6 + 2x^3 + x - 1

It is to be divided by a polynomial of degree 5.
This means that the dividing polynomial will be of form x^5 + ...

On dividing a polynomial of degree 6 by a polynomial of degree 5 , you can get a polynomial of at most degree (6-5)= 1 in quotient.

Thus, the polynomial in the quotient can have a maximum degree of 1.

As x^2 - 1 has a degree of 2, it cannot come in the quotient.
