Soaps are chemically sodium or potassium salts of long chain carboxylic acid (fatty acid) like oleic acid, stearic acid, palmitic acid etc. which has a cleansing property in water. Soaps are prepared by heating oil or fats in presence of sodium hydroxide solution. This process of soap formation is saponification.
The reaction is as follows:
C17H35COOH + NaOH → C17H35COONa + Gycerol.
I HOPE IT HELPFUL FOR YOU.
