then the value of x^2+1/x^2 =?

squaring both sides

(x+1/x)^2=4^2

x^2+1/x^2 =16

apply (a+b)^2 formula

then you get

x^2+1/x^2 + 2 =16

x^2+1/x^2 = 16-2

which is equal to 14
