a. The children are referred to as rough due to the fact that these children told words that are bad in meaning, or not that pleasant to hear, to say the least. As we can see in the poem, the narrator had a lisp, which is a little deficiency in pronouncing words, which is probably why they made fun of him.

b.The children copied and irritated the narrator in the following ways:

1. They copied his lisp, which is a little deficiency in pronouncing certain words.

2.They threw mud at the narrator.

3.They sprang out behind hedges to scare the narrator.

c. The children didnt want to be friends with the narrator. This is shown in the last stanza, where even though the narrator smiled at them, they didnt return the smile.

d. Though the children used to irritate the narrator, the narrator seems forgiving and kind of their unruly behaviour. This is because the narrator says in the last stanza that he longed to forgive them, and even smiled at them.
