Given:-

  • In attachment.

To Varify:-

  • A car travels along a straight road to the east for 100m/4secs then go to west for 50 mtrs in 1 sec deyermine the average displacement.

Answer:- 10m/sec

Yes mate! Your answer is absolutely correct.

Explanation with solution:-

Speed is a scalar unit which means, direction is not necessary in this case. We can simply divide the total covered distance by the total taken time,in order to calculate the average speed.

  • So, average speed = (100 m + 50 m)/ (4sec + 1sec)

  • => (150m/5sec)

  • = 30m/s

Now , velocity is a vector unit,which means direction is necessary in this case. We need to find the displacement (distance between starting point and ending point of the journey) and we need to divide the displacement with total taken time. Here,east and west are opposite directions.

  • So, displacement = 100 m - 50 m

  • = 50 m in east direction Average velocity

  • = 50m/5sec

  • = 10m/sec

hence answer verified!

Hope it helped!
