Pretty much any climate that isn't tropical or arctic is influenced by the polar jet streams. Some deserts are also unaffected. "Polar" in the weather world does not necessarily refer to the north or south pole. It is more of a location, or that the subject has certain characteristics. For example, polar air masses tend to be cold, and tend to originate in the north, such as Canada, Russia, or over the Arctic Ocean, but not necessarily at the North Pole itself. There are two Jet Streams in each hemisphere, both located in the middle latitudes. In the northern hemisphere, the northern branch is called the polar jet because it is further north, closer to the pole
