add both equation
u will get
200x + 200y = 1000
x + y = 5
subtract both equation
2y - 2x = -2
x - y = 1
add 3rd and 4th equation
2x = 6
x = 3
y = 2

We have,
99x + 101y = 499 ...(i)
101x + 99y = 501 ...(ii)
On adding both the equations we'll get,
200x + 200y = 1000
Taking 200 as common,
200(x + y) = 1000
x + y = 1000/200
x + y = 5 ...(iii)
Now, subtract equation (ii) from (i),
we get,
-2x + 2y = -2
Taking -2 as common,
-2(x - y) = -2
x - y = -2/-2
x - y = 1 ...(iv)
On adding equation (iii) and (iv), we get,
x + y = 5
x - y = 1
2x = 6
x = 3
Substitute the value of x in equation (iv)
x - y = 1
- y = 1 - x
-y = 1 - 3
- y = -2
y = 2
Therefore, the values of x and y are 3 and 2 respectively.
Hope this helps you.
