$\tan( \alpha ) + \sec( \alpha ) = 4$

We can write,

$\sec( \alpha ) - \tan( \alpha ) = \frac{1}{4}$

I wrote this, thinking you can understand as it's simple point for iit aspirant.

Add them.

$2 \sec( \alpha ) = \frac{17}{4}$

So

$\sec( \alpha ) = \frac{17}{8}$

So,

$\cos( \alpha ) = \frac{8}{17}$

Option D is the answer.
