Hey dear here is your answer
On passing CO2 through lime water ( Ca(OH)2 ), the solution gives a milky white precipitate due to the
formation of CaCO3. On passing excess CO2, Ca(HCO3) is formed which is soluble in water. Hence the milky
white ppt. slowly disappears.
Lime water is hydrous solution of Ca(OH)2
When lime water reacts with CO2, the following reaction takes place.
Ca(OH)2+CO2——-> CaCo3+H20
CaCo3 is white in color. So the solution turns white.
