The compound A is ethanoic acid having functional group -COOH.
The sweet smelling compound B is ethyl ethanoate(an ester) having functional group -COO-.
The overall reaction involved is as follows :-
C2H5OH(Ethanol) + CH3COOH(Ethanoic Acid)
= CH3COOC2H5(Ester) + H2O
Note that the this reaction takes place in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid .
