Let (1/2-√5) be a rational number and of the form a/b where b ≠ 0
Then,
1/2-√5 = a/b
b/a = 2-√5
2 - b/a = √5
2a-b/a = √5
Here 2a-b/a is rational but however √5 is irrational and so this is a contrary.
Hence our assumption is wrong.
Hence 1/2-√5 is an irrational number.
Hence Proved.
