Heya ☺
Changes that are seen in girls and boys when they reach puberty are : -
• Increase in height : The most dramatic and visible change is the sudden increase in height and weight at the onset of the puberty period. The arms and legs grow faster than the rest of the body. The spurt in physical growth is more evident in girls between 11-13 years of age whereas it is between 13-15 years for boys.
• Changes in the size of heart and lungs : The changes in the size of heart and lungs are less apparent but equally important. The diameter of the heart increases by half and the weight almost doubles itself. There is an increase in size and capacity of lungs too.
• Change in body shape : Boys generally have larger bones , more muscles , larger heart and lungs as compared to girls. Boys also have broad shoulders and narrow hips while the girls have curvaceous body and broader hips due to the enlargement of pelvic bones.
• Change in voice : As one goes through puberty , the larynx becomes bigger and the vocal chords lengthen and thicken , so the voice gets deeper. Larynx grows more in boys than girls. That's why the boys have flatter voice and the girls have shriller voice.
• Increased activity of sweat and sebaceous glands : The sweat glands of the body develop fully during puberty and there is an increased secreation of sweat. Acne and pimples are common among adolescents due to increased production of sebum from the sebaceous glands.
