Given :-
If x = -1/4 is a zero of polynomial p(x) = 8x³ - ax² - x + 2
To Find :-
Value of a
Solution :-
p(x) = 8x³ - ax² - x + 2
Since, it is given that -1/4 is a zero, So by putting value of x as -1/4 the result of the equation would be 0
⇒ 0 = 8(-1/4)³ - a(-1/4)² - (-1/4) + 2
⇒ 0 = (8 × -1/64) - (a × -1/16) + 1/4 + 2
⇒ 0 = -1/8 - (-a/16) + (1 + 8)/4
⇒ 0 = -1/8 + a/16 + 9/4
⇒ 0 = -2 + a + 36/16
⇒ 0 = 34 + a/16
⇒ 0 = 34 + a
⇒ -34 = a
Therefore, Value of a is -34
