Then the cost price of 17 water bottles will be 17x.

Given that Selling price of 16 water bottles = Cost price of 17 water bottles.

Therefore Selling price of 16 water bottles = 17x.

Selling price of 1 water bottle = 17x/16

Now,

Gain = SP - CP

         = 17x/16 - x

         = x/16

We know that Gain% = ((SP - CP)/CP)* 100

                                   = (x/16/x) * 100
 
                                   = 100/16

                                   = 6.25%.


Therefore the gain percent earned by the dealer = 6.25%.
