first please seperate all the terms by brackets so that you may not be confused

( –3a + 2b ) + [ 5a + (–7b)]

( –3a + 2b ) + [ 5a –7b]             open the  bracket

–3a + 2b  +  5a –7b                  open square bracket and small brackets

–3a + 5a+ 2b –7b                     write like terms with respective terms

2a-7b Ans.

Step 2: (–3 + 5)a + [2 + (–7)]b is most appropriate for faster calculation but remember, avoid clerical mistakes as algebra is different that arithmetics.
