Mean is the average of given set of numbers. Mean is also known as Average as well as Arithmetic Mean.

Mean = \dfrac{\textsf{Sum\:of\:observations}}{\textsf{Number\:of\:observations}}

Now coming to your question

\textsf{Question} :- The mean of 9, 14, x, 16, 7 and 18 us 11.5 . Find the value of x.

\textsf{Answer} :-

Mean = \dfrac{\textsf{Sum\:of\:observations}}{\textsf{Number\:of\:observations}}

☛ 11.5 = \dfrac{\textsf{9 + 14 + x + 16 + 7 + 18}}{\textsf{6}}

☛ 11.5 × 6 = 64 + x

☛ 69 = 64 + x

☛ 64 + x = 69

☛ x = 69 - 64

☛ x = 5

∴ The value of x is \boxed{\boxed{\textsf{5}}}
