Chemical symbols are used in much the same way. A chemical symbol is a shorthand method of representing an element. Instead of writing out the name of an element, we represent an element name with one or two letters. As you know, the periodic table is a chemist's easy reference guide.

relative molecular mass in British. noun. the sum of all the relative atomic masses of the atoms in a molecule; the ratio of the average mass per molecule of a specified isotopic composition of a substance to one-twelfth the mass of an atom of carbon-12. Symbol: Mr.

================================

One mole (abbreviated mol) is equal to 6.022×1023 molecular entities (Avogadro's number), and each element has a different molar mass depending on the weight of 6.022×1023 of its atoms (1 mole). The molar mass of any element can be determined by finding the atomic mass of the element on the periodic table.
