Answer:

This quite easy.. stay tuned.

Answer for (a) I.

Moment = Force *Perpendicular distance from the fixed (pivoted) point.

Moment = F1 * Distance.

here distance between F1 and F2 is 2m and X is at middle. So the distance for F1 to point X will be half i.e 1m.

So put the Values in formula.

Moment= 5N * 1m

= 5Nm.

For F2,

Same distance as it is also equally far from fixed point X..ie. 1m

Moment= F2 * perpendicular distance from fixed point

= 5N * 1m

= 5Nm.

Total moment of force or Couple = 5Nm + 5Nm = 10Nm

II. For Y,

you need to be careful here:)

F1 = 5N

Perpendicular distance = 2m (as given in figure).

Moment = F1* perpendicular distance

= 5 *2 = 10Nm.

Moment for F2,

F2= 5N

Perpendicular distance= 0 (zero) m because There is no perpendicular distance from the fixed point .

so, Moment =F2*Perpendicular distance

= 5N*0m=0Nm

Total moment of force= 10Nm.

(b)

The effect produced by the two forces about the point X is Rotational Motion in clockwise direction.

The effect produced by the two forces about the point Y is Rotational Motion in Clockwise direction.

The catch is that the magnitude of Moment for turning.
