Orographic or relief rainfall is caused when masses of air are forced up the side of elevated land formations, such as large mountains (often referred to as an upslope effect). The lift of the air up the side of the mountain results in adiabatic cooling, and ultimately condensation and precipitation.

Frontal rainfall which is also called as cyclonic rainfall occurs due to the cyclonic activity that occurs at the fronts of the cyclone. It is formed when two masses of air with different humidity, density and temperature collides. These air will not mix with each other but forms fronts.

Insolation is the solar radiation that reaches the earth's surface. It is measured by the amount of solar energy received per square centimetre per minute. Insolation affects temperature. The more the insolation, the higher the temperature.
