(i) Temperature and rainfall are the two main climatic factors responsible for soil formation

(ii) Land, Soil, Water, Natural Vegetation and Wildlife Resources Land degradation is a process by which the biophysical value of the soil is reduced tremendously due to man-made or natural activities.

Land degradation has become a major problem in the world today because of exploitation of soil. Deforestation is one reason behind this issue.

Agriculture can reduce the nutrients of the soil; overusing chemical fertilizers can damage the soil causing degradation.

(iii) Land is considered an important resource because it can be used for various purposes like agriculture, forestry, mining, building houses, roads and setting up of industries. It also serves as a habitat for a variety of flora and fauna.

(iv) Two steps that the government has taken to conserve plants and animals:

It has set up national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and biosphere reserves for the protection of natural vegetation and wildlife.

It has banned the killing of animals and cutting of trees.

Various awareness programmer have been encouraged at the regional and the community level.  

(v) Three ways to conserve water are:

   Prefer to use the shower, not always a bath.

   When brushing your teeth, close the tap!

   Use a bucket to clean the floors.
