Here the valency of copper is 2.

So the kind of compounds it can form are:

When valency of other element is 1

Cupric chloride - CuCl2 (coper with valency +2 is known as cupric)

When valency of other element is 2

Cupric oxide - CuO

When valency of other element is 3

Cupric phosphate - Cu3(PO4)2

Similarly all metals will have such compounds.

Like Iron with valency 3 will form Fe2O3, FePO4, FeCl3 etc.

Now lets look at Phosphate

It has a valency of 3.

It can form the following compounds and more:

Na3PO4, Cu3(PO4)2, FePO4 etc.

Similarly all other substances will form their compounds.
