Chemistry, asked by anvitha6, 1 year ago

please say me tye process of finding valance of :
(1) any element below atomic number 10 except 10
(2) any element below atomic number 20 except 20
(3) any element below atomic number 30 except 30
Frends here iam not understanding the limit of elements in the shells k,l,m,n
I knew that k = 2 , ,l=8.
But I'm unable to judge more m and n orbitals to find 30 elements valancies.
Hence pls don't answer silly and answer breifly.......

The valency of any element can be identified or found out without considering their atomic numbers.

What all we need to know is

1) Electronic configuration.

2) Group number of the elements.

We know that valency of metal = Number of electrons in the valence shell.

Valency of non metal = 8- Number of ekectrons in the valence shell.

Simply to determine which is metal and which is non metal.

Simply Check the valence electrons.

If they are in the range of 1-4 they are surely metals.

If they are in the range of 5-7 they are non metals.

==============================

Now coming to limits of k, l,m, n shells.

Number of electrons in the n th shell = 2( n²)

We know that

K shell = 1 st shell

L shell = 2 nd shell

M shell = 3 rd shell

N shell = 4 th shell.

Now number of electrons in K shell = 2(1^2)=2

Number of electrons in L, M,N shells are 8, 18,32 respectively.

anvitha6: surely with 8
HappiestWriter012: for k,l as valence shell. the formula in question " metals, non metals works out
anvitha6: s i do know
anvitha6: should we subtract only with 8 is it for sure
anvitha6: rehan valancy of gold can be find through its atomic number 79 or through electronic configuration
anvitha6: ok
