Let the speed of the stream in still water = x.
Speed downstream = (x + 2).
Speed upstream = (x - 2).
The distance covered by the upstream in six hours = 6(x - 2) ---- (1)
The distance covered by the downstream in five hours = 5(x + 2) ---- (2)
On solving (1) & (2), we get
6(x - 2) = 5(x + 2)
6x - 12 = 5x + 10
6x = 5x + 22
x = 22.
Therefore the speed of the boat in still water = 22km/hr.
Hope this helps!
