Let one number be x.

Then the other number will be 12 more than the smaller = x + 12.

Given that sum of two numbers is 10.

x + x + 12 = 10

2x+ 12 = 10

2x = -2

x = -1.

if one number = - 1, then the other number = x + 12

                                                                        = -1 + 12

                                                                        = 11.

Therefore the numbers are -1 and 11.

Verification:

x + x + 12 = 10

-1 - 1 + 12 = 10

-2 + 12 = 10

10 = 10.

Hope this helps!

let the smaller number be X
and greater be X+12
x+x+12=10
2x+12=10
2x= -2
therefore x equals to -1
greater number equals to -1+12= 11
