Use the formula

(a+b)^2

 {x}^{2}  +   {  \frac{1}{x} }^{2}   =  {(a + b)}^{2}  \\ =  {(x +  \frac{1}{x}) }^{2}  =  {x}^{2}  +  \frac{( {1})^{2} }{(x)}  + 2 \times( x) \times  \frac{1}{x}  \\   it \: is \: given \: that \: the \: value \: ofx +  \frac{1}{x} \: is \: 5 \\ use \: te \: identity \: to \: solve \\  =  {(5)}^{2}  =  {x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  + 2 \\ 25  - 2 =  {x }^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  \\ 23 =  {x +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } }

Hope you can now understand... :)
