It is given that Traingle ACD is a right traingle .

So lets find the altitude of the Traingle ACD by Pythagoras Theorem .

AD²= AC²+CD²

25²= AC²+ 7²

625 = AC²+ 49

AC²= 625- 49

AC²= 576

AC= √576 = 24

Now , we got the height of traingle ABD that is AC

And here we are going to find the side BC by using the pythagoras theorem that we will apply in Traingle ABC

AB²= AC²+BC²

30²= 24²+ Y

900 = 576 +Y

Y²= 900-576

Y² = 324

Y = √324 =18

Hence the required value of y is 18cm
