$2x - 3(x + 1) = 5x - 7 \\ 2x - 3x + 3 = 5x - 7 \\ 3 - x = 5x - 7 \\ 10 - x = 5x \\ 10 = 6x \\ x = \frac{10}{6} \\ x = \frac{5}{3}$
