 \cot( \alpha )  -  \tan( \alpha )

 =  \frac{ \cos( \alpha ) }{ \sin( \alpha ) }  -  \frac{ \sin( \alpha ) }{ \cos( \alpha ) }

 =  \frac{( \cos( \alpha )  {)}^{2}  - ( \sin( \alpha  {)}^{} )  {}^{2} }{ \sin( \alpha  \times  \cos( \alpha ) ) }

 \frac{2( \cos( \alpha ) {}^{2}  - 1 }{ \sin( \alpha )  \cos( \alpha ) }
