Hi

Question  : if x=2 and x=3 are roots of the equation 3x^{2}-2ax+2b=0,find the values of 'a' and 'b'.

Answer:

roots of the equation implies at that particular value of x the equation is zero.

so there are two steps to solve this question

STEP 1:

substitute x=2 in 3x^{2}-2ax+2b=0

we get

3(4)-2(a)(2)+2b=0

12-4a+2b=0

6-2a+b=0

=>4a-2b=12------------------------------------------>1

STEP 2:

substitute x=3 in 3x^{2}-2ax+2b=0

we get

3(9)-2(a)(3)+2b=0

27-6a+2b=0

=>6a-2b=27----------------------------------->2

solve for 'a' and 'b'

we get b=9 a=15/2

Have a great day !!!!iii
