1- The nervous system can be divided into two major regions: the central and peripheral nervous systems.

2- It consists of two parts: the brain and the spinal cord.

3- They have three distinct parts, including a cell body, axon, and dendrites.

4- Sensory neurons receive impulses and carry them from the sense organs to the spinal cord or brain.

5- The peripheral nervous system consists of the nerves that branch out from the brain and spinal cord. These nerves form the communication network between the CNS and the body parts. The peripheral nervous system is further subdivided into the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.

6- The brain has three main parts:

Cerebrum.

Cerebellum.

Brain stem.

Nerves–

Nerve is a bundle of nerves fibres (axons) of separate neurons, enclosed in a tubular meduallary sheath. These nerves conduct messga e from the brain to the muscles or the sense organ, or from the sense organ to the brain. These are thread like structures, help in conducting impulses.

There are three types of nerves –

  • Sensory nerves – Conduct impulses from. the sense organ to the brain
  • Motor nerves – Conduct impulses from. the brain the sense organ
  • Mixed nerve – These contain both, sensory as well as motor nerves.

Types of nervous system –

  • central nervous system
  • peripheral nervous system
