Answer:

3 x + 7 y = 37

⇒ 3 x = 37 - 7 y

⇒ x = ( 37 - 7 y ) / 3 -----(1)

Second equation is :

5 x + 6 y = 39

Substituting the value of x from (1) we get :-

⇒ 5 ( 37 - 7 y ) / 3 + 6 y = 39

⇒ ( 185 - 35 y ) / 3 + 6 y = 39

⇒ ( 185 - 35 y + 18 y ) / 3 = 39

⇒ 185 - 17 y = 117

⇒ - 17 y = 117 - 185

⇒ - 17 y = - 68

⇒ y = - 68/(-17)

⇒ y = 4

The value of y is 4 .

x = ( 37 - 7 y ) / 3

⇒ x = ( 37 - 7×4 )/3

⇒ x = ( 37 - 28 ) / 3

⇒ x = 9/3

⇒ x = 3

The value of x is 3 .
