Answer:

Given:

2 cylindrical vessels having 2 pistons of different area are joined at the bottom.

A 4 kg mass is placed on the Piston A.

To find:

1. Pressure on Piston A

2. Pressure on Piston B

3. Thrust on Piston B

Formulas used:

Pressure = (Force)/(area)

Calculation:

1. Force on Piston A = 4 kgf

[ kgf -> kg force]

Area of Piston A = 8 cm²

So pressure = (force)/(area)

=> pressure = 4/8

=> pressure = 0.5 kgf/cm².

2. As per Pascal's Law, the same pressure will be transmitted to Piston B.

So pressure on Piston B

= 0.5 kgf/cm².

3. Thrust is the other words for force.

So force on Piston B

= pressure × area

= 0.5 kgf/cm² × 320 cm²

= 160 kgf.
