Answer:

Honest Cop, I will tell you about my dad who is a cop and Honest as far as I know.

Well he started his career as Sub Inspector of Police in 1984. He was M.Tech Gold Medalist so written and interview were quite easy for him. He did give UPSC but never qualified.

His dad and my grandfather was an IPS Officer of 1958 batch and retired in 1994

So he basically knew about policing.

He was honest I could say because he always use to prepare a budget, get agitated even if Rs 50 was misplaced. Had his maths right to last Five rupees. Travelled in mostly Sleeper Class and sometimes general class.

He had a gift for solving cases and thus was assigned on all major cases by Top Officers, mostly his SP. Some fellow police officers who joined before him used to show off their contacts and advise him not to use office Jeeps sometimes prevented him happens that he superseded that particular officer and was Incharge of Police Station with all vehicles under him. Nobody to ask him not to use vehicles even for official duty.

He lead a normal life, loved to eat chicken and have drinks in front of family talking and watching TV. Never was addicted to alcohol.

Mostly he showed no favouritism but I recall one incident when he was Police Inspector and officer-in-charge of a Station, some one from the team complained against another honest cop as that cop was an impediment in the corrupt cop’s work. He took out the complaint and burned it, he told me, saving the honest guy some trouble.

The Salary was always spent and he had to take loans from his fellow policemen for the month in amount of two to three thousand rupees.

Well professionally people knew he was expert at solving cases and any senior whether corrupt or not will ask him to look through the case they were dealing with, most times informally. This earned him favours. Even one ADG who was was against him had to issue Commendation Letter when he cracked a big case. Points won.

He was promoted to DSP and that’s when things became better at family front and monetary front. He was picked by DGP to work in DGP Cell and monitor progress of various departments and report back to DGP.

He was assigned most critical financial matters by DGP for analysis and suggestions.

In one case a politician’s son was kidnapped, and that politician a state party president asked especially for my dad to be on case as he did not trust other officers dealing with case. He said I know this man beyond reproach and actually it worked in 20 hours his son was back. Which happened where encounter took place. He received DGP’s Insignia and later President’s Police Medal.
